I was watching North By Northwest tonight and was surprised to learn that the American agent for whom Cary Grant was mistaken was called "Mr. Kaplan." At the end of the film, you learn that there was no such person as Mr. Kaplan. He was a fiction created by the CIA to throw them off the scent so they wouldn't know who was really the US operative. Do we see any connection between that name from a classic Hitchcock mystery and our very own "Mr. Kaplan"?
